I always took sour taste for granted. I guess I didn’t really care for it much and so I barely used it in my cooking. It’s valuable to incorporate all 6 tastes into our diet. Not only does it make food taste better, it also creates more balance in many aspects of our digestive system.
Turns out I was missing a taste that my body really needed.
Sour taste secretes fluids and increases moisture in our salivary glands. And the moisture of our salivary glands reflects moisture in our digestive system. When our mouth is moist it also improves the taste of food. And sorry if this is TMI but it also improves moisture in our colon. A lot of digestive issues are related to dry quality and sour taste combats dryness.
SOUR TASTE (in the right amounts), is an important part of your digestive wellbeing.
This blended blueberry, mango, lime and licorice root concoction incorporates sour in all 3 fruits. It is supportive of my constitutional needs.
To make this yummy blended concoction:
Ingredients:
- Frozen wild blueberries
- Frozen Mangoes
- Juice from half a lime
- Water
Instructions
- Pour 1/2 to 1 cup of the frozen berries and mangoes into a high speed blender.
- Juice half a lime into blender
- Add warm or room temperature water (I prefer hot water so my smoothie is not cold which dims my digestive fire)
- Blend, pour and enjoy
